25%-65% Content Of Manganese Sand

25%-65% Content Of Manganese Sand

Significant catalytic oxidation activity exists in the 25%-65% content of manganese sand. In water, adequate dissolved oxygen can oxidize ferrous ions (Fe²⁺) and manganese ions (Mn²⁺) into insoluble iron oxide (Fe³⁺) and manganese oxide precipitate (Mn⁴⁺), which the filter layer can readily intercept to ensure effective removal.

1. Efficient ability to remove iron and manganese

Superior removal efficiency: The rate of manganese removal can surpass 90%; the iron removal rate can approach 99%.
More reactive than regular quartz sand or other filter materials, with a fast response speed.

2. No need to add additional chemical oxidants.

Under oxygen-rich conditions, medium- to 25%-65% content of manganese sand has good self-catalytic oxidation ability and can complete the iron-manganese oxidation reaction without adding chemical agents such as potassium permanganate and sodium hypochlorite, greatly simplifying the water treatment process.

Cut the use of chemicals, save pharmaceutical expenses, and enhance system safety.

3. High mechanical strength and good wear resistance

Manganese sand filter material boasts good compressive strength and particle hardness after high-temperature heat treatment and selective screening. Long-term running and several backwashing operations do not readily break or muddy the filter layer structure, so the structure is stable.
The service life of the water treatment system can be more than five years; hence, preserve the stability and continuity of its running.

4. Significant proportion, clear hierarchy, and better filtering effect

Manganese sand filter material is fit for the bottom layer laying of multi-media filters (such as manganese sand + quartz sand + anthracite), generating an excellent particle size distribution and hierarchical structure because of its high density (specific gravity 3.5~3.7 g/cm³) and fast settling speed.

Increase the filter's pollution interception capacity; extend the filtering cycle and cut maintenance frequency.

5. Wide applicability and flexible application

Applications of manganese sand include removal of iron and manganese from groundwater in urban waterworks, rural safe drinking water projects, industrial water purification pretreatment systems, pretreatment of high-purity water preparation in the food and pharmaceutical industries, and secondary water supply systems for high-rise buildings.

Flow of production in the process

High-quality 25-65% manganese sand filter material is produced mostly in three steps:

Choosing raw materials

To guarantee the durability and catalytic activity of the raw materials, choose premium natural manganese ore (Mn content between 30% and 80%).

01

Screening and crushing

The ore is first crushed, then particle size control using multi-stage screening machinery guarantees consistent particle size and regular shape of the filter material. Commonly utilized particle sizes fall between 0.6–1.2mm, 1–2mm, 2–4mm, etc.

02

Wash with water to remove impurities.

Several times cleaning the crushed particles using a high-pressure spray system removes silt, contaminants, and powder, therefore improving the cleanliness of the filter material.

03

Drying

To stop mold or clumping of the washed filter material during storage and usage, it is delivered to a medium- and low-temperature drying apparatus.

04

Graded packaging

Sort and package based on various of particle size, and label with guidelines to help consumer choice and use.

05

Precautions for use and maintenance

Following these steps will help to guarantee the 25–65% manganese sand's filtration performance and service life:

1. Rinse before initial usage.

Before first usage, the filter material should be well cleaned to eliminate tiny particles and surface dust, therefore preventing initial effluent turbidity.

2. Requirements for water quality

For catalytic processes, it is advisable to control the pH value of the source water within the range of 6.5–8.5;

Make sure the water's dissolved oxygen concentration is more than 4 mg/L; if needed, set the aeration equipment to boost dissolved oxygen; iron content should not be more than 15 mg/L, and manganese content should not be more than 5 mg/L.

3. Frequent backwashing

Regular backwashing is necessary to restore the permeability and catalytic activity of the filter material; oxidation precipitation will progressively gather on its surface during constant operation.
Depending on the raw water quality, backwash once every 8 to 12 hours of operation at 10–15 L/s · m².

4. Prevent extended downtime.

Long-term shutdown could cause channel obstruction in the filter layer and bacterial development. Before shutdown, it is advised to completely backwash and, if needed, remove the filter materials for air drying.

5. Frequent replacement

Although manganese sand filters last longer, their catalytic activity declines with increasing use time. Depending on the water quality and running circumstances, it is advised to replace it every five to eight years.
